Rewilding Reserve Assistant
Cove Valley, Devon
£18–£20 per hour (Self-Employed Contractor)
35–40 hours per week guaranteed

Cove Valley is a unique nature-based tourism and rewilding project set in the beautiful Devon countryside. We operate luxury woodland cabins alongside an ambitious conservation and species restoration programme involving white storks, common cranes, turtle doves, tree sparrows, and other native wildlife.
We are looking for a hardworking, practical, and reliable individual to join our team and help with the day-to-day running of both the rewilding project and our award-winning cabin site.

This is a varied outdoor role, ideal for someone who enjoys working with animals, nature, and the countryside.
Rewilding & Animal Care
Daily feeding and husbandry of birds and other wildlife species.
Assisting with the management of white storks, cranes, tree sparrows, turtle doves, and other conservation species.
Supporting the development of our expanding bird breeding facilities.
Building, installing, and maintaining bird nesting boxes and wildlife infrastructure.
Habitat management and practical conservation work across the reserve.
Working under the guidance of our Senior Aviculturist.
Cabin & Guest Facilities Support
Assisting with cabin changeovers between guests.
Cleaning out wood burners and preparing log supplies.
Maintaining and servicing wood-fired hot tubs.
Keeping cabin surroundings tidy and presentable.
Carrying out minor repairs and general maintenance tasks.
Driving a 4x4 utility buggy around the site.
Reserve & Garden Work
Assisting with vegetable growing and kitchen garden maintenance.
General gardening and landscaping.
Grass cutting, hedge maintenance, and reserve upkeep.
Practical countryside management tasks.

We are looking for someone who:
Is dependable, committed, and takes pride in their work.
Enjoys working outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions.
Has a genuine interest in wildlife, conservation, and the countryside.
Is physically fit and capable of carrying out practical outdoor work.
Can work independently and use their initiative.
Has a full UK driving licence.
Is willing to work occasional weekends when required, particularly during the busy spring and summer months or when animal welfare needs demand it.
Desirable Skills (but not essential)
Animal husbandry or aviculture experience.
Gardening or horticultural experience.
Chainsaw certification and experience.
Practical maintenance or handyman skills.
Experience operating machinery, ATVs, utility vehicles, or agricultural equipment.
Conservation, forestry, farming, or countryside management experience.

What We Offer
£18–£20 per hour depending on experience.
Guaranteed 35–40 hours per week, with seasonal fluctuations throughout the year.

Aviculturist / Animal Husbandry Assistant
Lifton – Derek Gow Consultancy site / Cove Valley – overseeing the bird side of the rewilding project
Full Time – 40 Hour Week
Salary – £26,500 (depending on experience)
We're looking for an Aviculturist / Animal Husbandry Assistant to join our team working with a range of British and European wildlife, including but not limited to white storks, turtle doves, twite, black grouse, water voles, Scottish wildcats and glow-worms.

This role will be based across our site at Lifton, Devon, and will also involve working at Cove Valley, also in Devon, where you will oversee the bird conservation and rewilding project, carrying out similar work with a range of species.
This is an exciting opportunity to work across two key sites and contribute to impactful rewilding and species recovery projects.
